THE STRUCTURE OF A SENTENCE - SIMPLE SENTENCE

SIMPLE SENTENCE
  • A simple sentence, also called an independent clause, contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought.

  • An independent clause (or main clause) is a clause that can stand by itself, also known as a simple sentence. An independent clause contains a subject and a verb; it makes sense by itself.
EXAMPLES
  1. The students play football every afternoon. (the subject is "students" and the verb is "play")
  2. Alex went to school yesterday. (the subject is "Alex" and the verb is "went")
  3. I drive the car. (the subject is "I" and the verb is "drive")
